Phoebe Philo’s new collection sells out almost instantly
Phoebe Philo’s new collection was revealed on October 30, and the fashion world still hasn’t recovered.
For those who haven’t been stalking her career, the designer made her name at Celine, where she was the creative director from 2008 to 2017 and gained a cult-like following for her easy approach to high fashion. Nearly six years later, Phoebe Philo’s eponymous debut collection brought the same energy, as well as an ultra-luxury price tag. As expected, most of the pieces sold out instantly, but there are still a few items you can get your hands on if you act fast.
Holt Renfrew x Brunello Cucinelli is a lesson in quiet luxury
No one does quiet luxury quite like Brunello Cucinelli, and apparently, it runs in the family. Carolina Cucinelli (one of the designer’s daughters) and Joseph Tang, fashion director of Holt Renfrew, have teamed up to design and create an exclusive collection inspired by Carolina’s own wardrobe.
Anchoring the offering in “versatility and timelessness,” the capsule includes chunky cashmere sweaters, shearling jackets, skirts, capes, jeans and more that would look right at home in any fashionable Canadian or Italian city.
Anine Bing comes to Yorkdale
Scandi girls, rejoice! Anine Bing is coming to Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre, marking its first store in Canada. The L.A.-based brand has made a name for itself for its marriage of Scandinavian minimalism and “American energy,” and as a result has become a must-have label in every fashionista’s closet. The opening coincides with the launch of its Winter 2023 collection featuring Kate Moss (!!) so when you inevitably find yourself there, be sure to check out the luxurious staples inspired by Parisian allure with rock ‘n’ roll undertones.
BonLook goes classic for the holidays
This holiday season, BonLook is celebrating the classics by re-releasing some of its top styles in new colours. Whether you’re looking to accessorize your party ensemble or embrace the “new year, new you” mentality early, the Canadian brand has more than a few suggestions. Think classic square and circular frames in jade tortoiseshell, moon dust and deep blue.
Billie Eilish adds designer to her resumé with Gucci
Billie Eilish has always been an innovator, and now she’s applying her forward-thinking mentality to fashion with the help of Gucci. The brand’s Horsebit 1955 is the first Gucci bag ever to be crafted in Demetra, an animal-free material that combines quality, softness, and durability.
Eilish can be seen sporting the sustainable and asymmetrical purse in an intimate campaign set to her viral Barbie song “What Was I Made for?” The whole video feels very raw and personal, which feels very fitting given the fact that the bag is made with 75 per cent plant-derived raw materials.
Toronto’s Carriage Trade turns 60
In honour of Carriage Trade’s 60th anniversary, the Toronto-based luxury retailer is giving back to the community by teaming up with local artists Nessa Lilly and Sophie Brussaux on a limited-edition T-shirts and scarf.
Besides looking very cute and stylish, all proceeds of the We Can tee and Liberté scarf will be donated to Rethink Breast Cancer and HART (Human Anti-Trafficking Response Team). And while you’re there, be sure to congratulate owner Nori Mirza on the shop’s milestone, as she’s been there since 1994.
Alexanderwang arrives on Toronto’s Bloor Street
Alexanderwang has opened its first-ever Canadian flagship store just in time for the holiday season. Located on Toronto’s Bloor Street, the retail space features the brand’s full assortment —women’s RTW, footwear and accessories—and new offerings like the recently re-launched menswear, bodywear, and kids collection.
