Sure, black and grey are fall mainstays, but this season, there’s something irresistibly decadent about a rich brown coat.
Our apologies to the people who have made coffee their whole personality — turns out you were right (well, at least when it comes to fashion!). Latte dressing is the newest micro trend to hold the internet’s attention and it’s all about capturing that cozy cup feeling.
Like its beauty counterpart, latte makeup, latte dressing embraces the warmth and sophistication of the colour brown. Caramels, chocolates, espressos, as long as you can consume it, consider it an inspiration.
Besides taking over the streets during fashion week, the monochromatic look has recently been seen on Meghan Markle, Jennifer Lawrence, Hailey Bieber and more. So how do you rock latte dressing without looking like a coffee gone wrong? We’ve rounded up a few suggestions.
Bomber
How do you say brown in Danish? The bomber jacket was the real street style star during Copenhagen Fashion Week and this delicious espresso colour made it even more desirable. When paired with some wide-legged jeans and aviator shades, you’ll be sure to get a nod of approval from Matilda Djerf herself.
Filippa K Bomber
Filippa K is the brand for Scandinavian minimalism. Inspired by the warm tones of the 70s, its fall collection features an array of luxe outerwear including this cropped shearling jacket. Sure to keep you warm well into the winter, pair it with a matching turtleneck underneath for extra coziness.
Gucci Sunglasses
While sunnies mostly get their spotlight in the summer, fall is a very underrated season to wear them. Take these Gucci aviators: while their protection might be too subtle for June, they’re perfect for late October or early November sunshine.
COS Cargo Jeans
Cargo pants and wide-legged jeans all in one? Yes please. To balance out the proportions of these boxy bottoms, be sure to wear a chunkier boot or sneaker to offset the hemline. Accessorize with a shoulder bag and you’re ready to take on the town.
Trench
Latte dressing is all about the monochromatic moment and there’s perhaps no better example than this trench, mini dress and long boot ensemble. The key? All three items are different shades of brown.
Christian Louboutin Boots
These boots are made for walking but not necessarily rain (they’re suede!). Nevertheless, the rich dark hue makes them the perfect shoe to complete any latte-inspired outfit. Consider them the chocolate swirl on top.
Tiffany & Co. Hoops
Silver might be having a major moment but gold and brown will always be a winning combination. These industrial-inspired hoops by Tiffany & Co. will give you enough sparkle for the day but will truly shine at night.
Noize Vegan Leather Trench Coat
You will never regret buying a trench in the fall so why not make it a vegan leather one? Canadian brand Noize is known for its environment-friendly ethos and contemporary style so invest in a local label that looks good and does good.
Puffer
The idea behind this latte look: winter, but make it fashion. Take your cues from this street style star and balance out your bubble-like puffer with equally voluminous boots. Then add a mini bag, just for fun.
Charles & Keith Bag
It’s hard to go wrong with a black bag, but add some edge with silver accents and you’ve got yourself a whole new look. As seen on this Charles & Keith purse, look for a style that’s got some serious hardware, minus the weight.
Canada Goose x Rokh x Matt McCormick Puffer
In the collab to end all collabs, Canada Goose teamed up with Korea-born, United States-raised designer Rok Hwang (of Rokh) and multimedia artist Matt McCormick on an 8-piece collection that blends westernwear with contemporary silhouettes and cold-weather performance. Our favourite item? This beige puffer that looks as if it were made for latte dressing.
Moon Boot Shoes
Why blend in when you can stand out? Or so is the thought behind these monstrous Moon Boots. The shape is the same as the original Icon model, inspired by the 1969 moon landing (hence the name) but now with curly faux-fur!
Faux Fur
If you struggle to get up and at ‘em in the morning, let this snuggly faux-fur coat be your motivation to emerge from your duvet cocoon. Simply add a pair of jeans and a cute top and let your outerwear do the talking.
Freed Coat
The ‘Lily’ coat is one of Freed’s most recognizable styles and it’s easy to see why. Crafted from lusciously soft animal-free fur, this Canadian-made coat has an oversized fit, wide collar and deep patch pockets. Whats more, Freed also sells a matching hat should you feel the need to accessorize.
Coach Bag
Animal print can go from tasteful to tacky real quick so be sure to use it sparingly. A well placed bag, like this one from Coach, will be sure to toe the line.
Maguire Sunglasses
Anyone else getting major Y2K flashbacks? Add a sprinkle of nostalgia to your outfit with these Maguire sunnies. Not included: butterfly clips or a flip phone.
